Can you tell us a little about yourself and what inspired you to become an author?
"My life's compass is firmly set by the example of my parents. My mother, Dr. Irma Hunter Wesley, and my late father, Mr. Sylvester Wesley, Sr., dedicated their lives to selfless service, embracing individuals from all walks of life without prejudice. Witnessing their unwavering commitment to others instilled in me a deep desire to make a positive impact on the world.
From a young age, I vowed to help others live fulfilling lives and achieve their full potential. I believe my purpose is to empower individuals to recognize their inherent worth and understand their vital role in shaping a brighter future built on love and compassion."
What is your book about, and what inspired you to write it?
'SHOW UP FOR YOU,' The Stage is Waiting for You is a message of self-empowerment, self-celebration, support and encouragement reminding individuals at every stage of life that it's time to prioritize their own well-being and celebration. This book arose from the observation that many people, regardless of their roles, struggle with self-authenticity. We often prioritize others, neglecting our own needs, which hinders our ability to lead effectively and live fulfilling lives.
The core principles of this book are grounded in the timeless wisdom of "Love your neighbor as yourself" and "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." I firmly believe that self-love is the foundation for genuine compassion towards others. If I cannot treat myself with fairness and respect, I cannot expect others to do the same.
'Show Up for You' was born from a desire to cultivate a more authentic and secure self, enabling me to serve others with greater integrity and compassion.
Are you a PurposePals author? If so, what did you enjoy about your PurposePals Publishing experience?
My most rewarding publishing experience was collaborating with Mrs. Kimi Johnson. Her enthusiasm for my work was infectious. When I encountered writer's block, Ms. Johnson provided invaluable support, helping me overcome obstacles and rediscover my writing flow. Her unwavering belief in my book fueled my perseverance and inspired me to continue.
What was the most challenging part of writing or publishing your book, and how did you overcome it?
The most significant hurdles I faced while writing were experiencing writer's block and feeling dissatisfied with my initial drafts. These challenges often left me feeling frustrated and discouraged. However, I overcame these obstacles with the invaluable guidance of Mrs. Kimi Johnson.
Through our discussions, she helped me navigate the writing process more effectively. One particularly helpful suggestion was to "record my thoughts." This simple advice proved to be a breakthrough. As I began to capture my ideas while traveling and engaging with the world around me, my thoughts flowed freely like a running faucet.
Who or what do you hope your book will impact, and what message do you want readers to take away?
My hope is that 'Show Up for You' will inspire those who are yet to embrace their own potential. This book is for those who have dedicated themselves to helping others achieve their dreams yet may be neglecting their own aspirations. It's for those brimming with dreams, visions, and a deep desire for self-fulfillment but who haven't taken the first step towards realizing them or who have started the fulfillment of their dream but stopped. And finally, it's for older individuals who still harbor unfulfilled dreams and long to make a meaningful impact before their time is done.
I want readers to emerge from this journey with a profound sense of self-worth and the conviction that they have both the right and the responsibility to prioritize their own well-being. They are the architects of their own lives, and the world awaits their unique contributions.
What is your writing process like? Do you have any tips or habits you'd like to share with aspiring authors?
My writing process involves consistently capturing my thoughts through journaling and actively observing the world around me. I remain open to divine inspiration, seeking messages of self-empowerment in movies, conversations, shows, and interactions with others.
For aspiring authors, I offer these key tips:
Embrace your unique story. Someone is waiting for the message only you can deliver, a message that will ignite their own journey of self-discovery.
Write from the heart. Don't overthink or strive for perfection in the initial stages. Let your creativity flow freely.
Value your words. They possess the power to transform lives. Embrace your authentic voice and "Show Up for You" as a writer.
What advice would you give to someone who is just starting their journey as a writer or planning to publish their first book?
Without hesitation, I recommend aspiring authors and those embarking on their first book publishing journey to connect with Mrs. Kimi Johnson. Her guidance was invaluable to me, and I am grateful that my book is now published and reaching readers worldwide.
My sincere hope is that other aspiring authors will experience the same level of support and encouragement from Mrs. Johnson. I envision a future where I hear from grateful authors who share, "Dr. Judy, thank you for connecting me with Mrs. Johnson. I am actively writing, and I am witnessing my book come to life."
