Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Compton—yes, right in the heart of the hood! Lol. Growing up in that environment meant dodging bullets and avoiding gang activity, which was intense during that time. I'm incredibly grateful to have survived it all and to be here today sharing my story.
I also served in the military as a communication specialist, with my first duty station at Fort Hood, Texas, followed by Wildflecken, Germany. While stationed in Germany, I fell in love with the food and would love to visit again just to experience authentic German cuisine once more.
When you’re not writing, what are you most likely doing?
If it's the weekend, you’ll probably find me mowing my lawn and shaping my trees. I’m always designing something in my yard—it's truly one of my favorite creative outlets. My passion for landscaping started as a teenager when I visited Disneyland for the first time and was amazed by how they trained, shaped, and designed trees into topiaries.
Since then, I’ve created my own topiary designs. It’s a labor-intensive process, but the reward is incredible. Watching the transformation of a tree into a living work of art brings me so much joy.
What’s your favorite genre to write?
Writing for children has become my absolute favorite. I love the freedom and imagination it allows. There’s no limit to creativity, and I can create funny plots, whimsical characters, and unexpected endings. Writing children’s books lets me tap into my inner child and invite young readers into the world of storytelling.
Do you have any other talents outside of writing?
Yes! I play the harp and often perform at weddings and special events. Music has been a beautiful creative outlet for me as well.
Beyond music and writing, I’m also a speaker, workshop facilitator, and book writing coach, helping aspiring authors discover and refine their creative voices.
Did you always envision yourself becoming a published author?
If you had asked me that years ago, I would have laughed and said, "No way!" Writing wasn’t something I ever imagined for myself.
However, as time went on, something inside me shifted. Now, all I want to do is write, create, and publish more books. Writing has become my passion and purpose, and I’m embracing it fully.
What do you enjoy most about writing children’s books?I love the freedom to create without limits. Writing children’s stories allows me to explore funny plots, wild characters, and imaginative worlds. It feels like stepping back into childhood where anything is possible.
Bringing my imagination to life and sharing it with young readers is such a rewarding experience. I get to inspire creativity and ignite curiosity in kids, and that's a gift I'm grateful for.
What do you hope young readers gain from your book Pots Pots Pots?
My greatest hope is that young readers become curious about God's power and miracles. Pots Pots Pots is based on 2 Kings Chapter 4, a powerful biblical story about faith and provision.
I want children to walk away from this book with a deeper understanding that God can do amazing things, and that their faith can lead to miracles in their own lives.
What did you enjoy most about writing Pots Pots Pots?
Writing this book was such a joyful experience! I stayed true to the biblical account from 2 Kings Chapter 4, verses 1-7, but I had fun expanding the creative elements to make it engaging for kids.
I imagined questions like:
What if the boys dropped the pots?
What if the pots were brown, blue, or even had polka dots?
I explored the story from a child’s perspective, making it playful while still conveying the core message of faith. Writing it felt like seeing the Bible come to life through the eyes of a child.
How did you discover your gift for writing?
Honestly, the more I wrote, the more I discovered that writing had been in me all along. It just took time for me to tap into it fully.
Every book I wrote helped me unlock more of my creative potential, and with God’s help, I’ve embarked on a writing journey I never expected. It’s amazing how much we carry inside us. Sometimes, we just have to dig deeper to discover it.
How many books have you published?
I currently have five published books, with Pots Pots Pots being my first children's book.
What inspires your ideas for books?
My inspiration comes from many sources—sometimes from funny experiences, other times from personal joys and challenges I've faced.
A lot of my creativity also stems from my imagination and my faith journey. I try to pull from both the lighthearted moments and the serious lessons of life, blending them into stories that inspire and uplift.
What’s your favorite manuscript, and why?
That’s tough! I would say Pots Pots Pots and The Ability of the Tongue. They both carry powerful messages that I feel passionate about sharing.
How has your life changed since becoming a published author?
Becoming a published author has opened so many doors for me. It has led to speaking engagements, teaching opportunities, and even coaching other aspiring authors.
It brings me so much joy to hear from parents, teachers, and friends who tell me how my books have impacted their lives. Knowing that my words are making a difference inspires me to keep writing and sharing my voice.
When writing children’s books, what comes first for you—the plot or the characters?
So far, it has always started with the title. Once I have a title, I build the entire story around it.
I’ll take some time to step away, reflect, and brainstorm, jotting down ideas as they come to me. Then, I dive into imagination mode and let the story unfold from there.
What can readers expect to see next from you?
My next children’s book is titled "The Magic Kite," and I’m so excited about it! It’s going to be filled with adventure, laughter, and valuable lessons.
I also have several other children's stories in the works and books for adults on the way too. My goal is to continue sharing stories that bring joy, imagination, and faith to readers of all ages.
Oh, and one of my personal favorites, "The Magic Leg", is also coming soon. It’s a powerful story about how tragedy meets triumph and how a little boy overcomes challenges to fulfill his dreams. But that’s all I’m sharing for now—you’ll have to read it! Lol.
Based on a popular Bible story found in II Kings 4:1-7, Judah and Simon are about to be made slaves because their mother has no money to pay a mean old creditor. The mother seeks help from a wise prophet and is instructed on what to do. Miraculously, a small pot of oil changes their fate and the rest of their lives.
