Featured Author Spotlight: Mary E. Dynes- Oh Boy, Will Mama Bear Be Upset

Updated: Jan 6

Mary E. Dynes is a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and retired city letter carrier who is passionate about literacy, especially for today’s youth. She believes that reading and storytelling play a vital role in shaping young minds and inspiring growth in the next generation.

What Inspired Her to Become an Author?

Mary began her writing journey in 1966 under the guidance of her late professor, Jennifer Whitted, who inspired her to explore storytelling for children. Since then, she has published two children's books and has several more manuscripts waiting to be shared with the world.

About Her Book and the Inspiration Behind It

Her latest book tells the story of Mama Bear, a mother raising three young cubs. While Mama Bear works hard to provide for her family, she must leave her cubs alone, and their creativity sometimes gets the better of them, leading to trouble.

The heart of the story lies in Mama Bear's unique parenting approach, where she models positive lessons and encourages her cubs to think differently about their actions. Ultimately, her youngest cub absorbs these lessons, demonstrating the impact of nurturing guidance.

The inspiration for this book came from a picture in a literature class, sparking a heartfelt message about balancing work, parenting, and positive discipline.

On Being a PurposePals Author

As a proud PurposePals author, Mary describes her experience as empowering and fulfilling.

"What I enjoyed most was feeling safe and supported throughout the entire process. It was amazing to see my vision come to life in such a powerful way."

Overcoming Challenges in Writing and Publishing

The biggest challenge during her publishing journey was patience. Waiting for the various stages of the process to be completed tested her, but she overcame it by staying proactive and ensuring all her questions were answered.

Who She Hopes to Impact

Mary hopes her book will inspire parents, caregivers, and educators to explore positive parenting techniques that encourage creativity while still guiding children toward positive life lessons.

Her message is simple: "There’s always a better way to nurture and teach our children, and those lessons can shape them for a lifetime."

Advice for Aspiring Author

To those just beginning their writing journey or considering publishing their first book, she offers this advice:

"Speak up! Don't hold back any questions you have during the process. Every step matters, and where there’s a question, there’s always a way to find the answer."

What’s Next for Mary E. Dynes?

Looking ahead, Mary plans to actively market her book and work on a sequel to continue inspiring families with valuable lessons. Her goal is to use storytelling to motivate greatness in communities and encourage positive relationships between parents and children.
